From a security and privacy point of view, it is not a good idea to leave your computer unattended. Someone in your home or office could sit down in front of the monitor and start using your computer, thus gaining access to your data, data that you would much rather remain private. So, every time you step away from your computer, you should put it on lockdown. LockGear Professional (or LockGear Enterprise) is a handy tool that puts an icon in the system tray – from that icon you can lock down your computer.

1.5Mb is the size of the executable you will have to download in order to get started with LockGear. On a high-speed internet connection it will take but a moment for the download to complete. Run the executable and a setup wizard will guide you through the installation process of LockGear. The application works with any Windows version from Windows 9x up to Windows 7.

Using LockGear Enterprise is a fairly simple process. The application sits in the system tray, waiting for you to call on it. With a simple double click on the LockGear icon in the system tray, you can lock your system. You can also lock the system with a LockGear hotkey; the default is Ctrl + Alt + L, but you can change it to something else if you want to.

If you don’t want to lock your system manually, you can let LockGear do it automatically for you. By default the application will automatically lock the system after 1 minute of idle time; you can change it to something longer if you want to. You can select the amount of idle time after which you want LockGear to put your system on lockdown.

You can run LockGear in two modes. If you don’t care if others find out that you use LockGear, then run it in visible mode. If you want to keep it to yourself, then you can run it in stealth mode.

If you would like to get LockGear, you must know that the application is free to try. You can use LockGear Enterprise free of charge only during a trial period of 30 days. You should also know that on Windows 7 you can put your system on lockdown with a simple keyboard shortcut: Start + L.

LockGear Professional is a simple application that allows you to lock your computer and automatically locks your computer, thus protecting your privacy.

Pros

Takes little time to download and install the application. You can manually lock the system or you can use a hotkey (the hotkey is customizable). The application will automatically lock your system after a specific amount of idle time. You can run LockGear in stealth mode.

Cons

Free to try for a period of 30 days. You can also lock your computer free of charge by pressing Start + L.
